Being such a dedicated fag hag I’m always surprised looking back how off my gaydar was as a young girl. First pop singer I had a crush on? Boy George. Seriously. There have always been plenty of cute pop singers out there and some of them have even been interested in girls, you’d think I could have sussed one of them out. First boy I ever picked up in a nightclub? Was wearing bicycle pants and we were in a gay bar. Seriously.
But then again I grew up in a time when anything was possible. I mean Elton John got married, to a woman!

My wall was plastered with posters of George Michael/Wham!. I am now an out & proud lesbian, but the first person I ever picked up was also in a gay club. An he was wearing Speedos and a bow-tie! Not the most successful pick up ever.
I think gaydars take a while to calibrate, although mine’s still pretty out of whack.
Apparently gaydar didn’t exist in the 80s. I was surprised by Freddie Mercury being gay. Although I was never impressed by Boy George – I couldn’t understand why anyone would think that a boy who dressed like a girl was cute. Of course, I liked Michael Jackson, so my superior taste is clear…

A lot of people had crushes on gay artists, just because they’re gay doesn’t mean they cease to be appealing to the opposite sex!
Christopher Robin, love your nickname. No, you’re quite right but I think the thing is in this post (and comments) is that I didn’t figure out that they were gay and it all seems so obvious now.
