You might think I have a thing for seeing my son in gowns. You would be right.

Maybe it the texture and lightness of the cotton, especially in hot weather.

Or the history behind these garments – they go back at least a generation in my family, sometimes more, I wore some of them as a baby, and some were hand-made by women no longer alive.

Or maybe it is the chance to see my baby boy in something beautiful, instead of jeans and ‘lock up your daughters’ t-shirts.

Or maybe it is all part of a feminist plot to grow him up gay. Yeah, that would be it.
By the way, the opportunity to help queer parents and their children in Queensland (ironic name, I know) gain some of the same rights afforded to straighties is in its final days… If you live in Queensland the campaign is asking begging you to visit a local politician before they vote on the legislative changes. In the words of the campaign leaders: “showing them how deeply normal we are (or, if straight, how completely unfazed you are by the idea that lesbian parents might have the same rights as you do”.
Apparently the vote is tipped to be very close: 39 against, 38 for, and 7 undecided. Yikes!
More details here on the relevant seats/members of parliament and how you go about visiting a politician.

Thanks Blue Milk – al;though I had to take down the list of specific MPs we want people to visit – as there was some concern the “family” groups (you know, REAL families) would use it against us. But email me if you want to help out mikhela_lee *at* yahoo.com.au – or just go and visit your MP anyway!
My son can rock a dress and it looks like yours can too.
