How can you explain this? A lack of sufficient evidence to lay charges?! You’ve got the Aboriginal elder who died of heat stroke and you’ve got the morons who transported him in the back of a sealed van with no air-conditioning for eight hours through the desert without once checking on him. I see evidence.

‘Moron’ is too forgiving – it implies a lack of knowledge, rather than the deliberate negligence that must have been involved.
As you say, the evidence is quite sufficient for charges of Manslaughter by virtue of Gross Negligence to be laid. The fact that they have not been speaks volumes about corruption in our police forces and the endemic racism that runs through policy culture and our culture more generally. It’s sick.
It is appalling. A gross deriliction of duty of care.
I hope the family sue the arses off those responsible in a civil trial.
Apparently, according to WA media reports quoting the DPP, the police failed to separate the two guards before (and/or during) questioning, and therefore “contaminated the evidence”.
…yeah.
