It pays to listen when your toddler comes back inside to tell you something. While you’re finishing that email off take a moment to look up and acknowledge him. Good listening involves more than a few vacant “mmmms” as you stare into your computer screen.
Otherwise you might find your toddler just drops what he has brought to show you on your arm. And when you scream in your toddler’s face while leaping out of your chair it will frighten him near to death.
Learn from my mistakes.

My partner and I have that bad habit as well, but thankfully usually catch each other with a prompt ‘Be careful what you are agreeing to!’. She once almost agreed to get my daughter a puppy because she wasn’t listening to the torrent of words.
that ..er.. thing is pretty cool to find in the garden I must say, but oh yes, it pays to listen..
for me it would have been something like “D’s climbed on the roof, come and see” or “I done a poo on your bed” or other such delights
Aw, sweet. I love water dragons. Probably not actually on my limbs though.
Could have been worse, could have been a giant spider. [ shudder ]
Sorry, I kind of laughed really hard at this. I’d probably have done the same if I wasn’t paying attention, too. Pretty cute lizard, though! And not something slimy like an axolotl.
AWESOME.
I am so impressed that he bought a lizard in for you!!
His father is always bringing in lizards and snakes and stuff to show the kids.
I looked at the preview of that link very carefully, lest your gift have been eight legged.
I’ve also been bitten (not literally) by nodding and mmming, it can be a dangerous game.
