Here is one of my all-time favourite celebrity crushes, Jarvis Cocker.. and isn’t he looking very much The Dad these days? Like a father I might run into while dropping our kids off at school.
Makes me wonder about everyone’s secret lives – the people they were before they became someone’s parents.
I know some find these transformations tragic but I think changing with your age is really quite a fascinating process. What remains the same? What is authentic and what is not authentically you?

But sometimes I just can’t recognise any vestige of the younger me in this parental, job-holding me. Which dislocates my brain.
Agree with Pen.
Also think the photo is hilarious! I hadn’t seen this new Dad/Jarvis transformation. Makes me also feel slightly less parent-geek more “Yeah, I was hip once, now I have other priorities”.
So did your husband ever moon Michael Jackson?
Hey, great ice breaker that would be at a play-date in the park.
I hadn’t seen his transformation either! Wow.
It makes me wonder about what ‘ordinary’ looking people still have inside them. How much of the people we used to be was just foolish youth and has fallen away? How much of that questioning and challenging spirit has simply taken a different form, a quieter more subtle angle.
And how many of the people who I, as a youth, judged to be totally square were secret revolutionaries?
Oh gosh! Yes, I also had a massive crush on him in the day. Actually he looks a bit like my Dad – and I know from photos of Dad in the 70s that he had a bohemian trendy look when he was young.
I don’t think there is that much of a transformation actually. I have a HUGE celeb crush on Jarvis too and have followed his career since the 90s. His lyrics are as controversial as ever now and he’s still as cheeky but thoughtful as ever too. I saw him in concert a couple of years ago and he was still that same energy.. I dunno… I just think he’s aged and a bit grey! Apart from that… I even think his clothes are kind of the same.
Hey, good to see you again.
I crush on Jarvis very much still, too. I wasn’t trying to say that Jarvis has lost it – but there is nothing like seeing someone as a parent to really take all the wildness out of their appearance.

A friend linked this video of Jarvis and his son.
I find it strange, funny even, seeing him doing non- rockstar stuffs like driving that funny car, playing with his kid or even combing his hair. I wouldn’t expect to see this from a guy who wrote songs like “Hardcore”, “Babies”, etc.
Oh wait, from that pic above, I see he still loves to carry his stuffs in a plastic carrier bag. Some things have not yet “transformed”.
