How many of the Top 100 Mommy Blogs chosen by Babble are not American? I ask this because how does ‘The Funniest’ not include the English blog, Whoopee and the ‘Most Useful’ not include the Canadian blog, PhD in Parenting? That’s not to say that Babble can please everyone or that there aren’t more American mothers blogging than anyone else… but still, I mean, it’s the Internet, it’s interesting because you get to read about the lives and perspectives of people outside your own little spot on the map.
(This year, after strong criticism Babble has at least included some more women of colour in their list and hopefully there is a queer mother or two in there; but diversity, you can keep working on that).

Intrigued by ‘Whoopee’ but all I get is the message ‘content is only for invited readers’. Might that be the reason?
And she’s back and accessible again. Check her out.
Yeah, that’s something new. She’s mysteriously closed her blog off. Some tiny glimpse of her here http://womenshealthfoundation.org/blog/?p=580 but by no means anywhere near her funniest. Even her youtube stream is shut off. Sad.
This year’s list seems to be Babble patting itself on its back.
Anyone who has criticized Babble is … unsurprisingly … absent.
I am (not) surprised that Renee from http://www.womanist-musings.com/ was also excluded. Her blog is hard for White folk (like myself) to read. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t read it, and it doesn’t mean it isn’t good.
I have no idea what Babble is, but in defense of some of us US-ians, we’re not all close-minded jerks who insist on thinking and reading only about “our own little spots on the map.” Promise!
So right, Sarah. Have more American readers than any other nationality – lots of you guys are very interested in spots outside your own little spot on the map.. and I also understand the desire to read about lives similar to one’s own at times, too.
One does wonder whether Phd was left off because she is so critical of Babble’s formula advertising?
To their credit, there are actually a few Canadian blogs on the list. There are several reasons I’m not on it, none of which have anything to do with me being Canadian.
My bigger concern/question would be how many of the “top” mom bloggers are employed by Babble?
Can they not use the term “mommy”??
What I don’t get is the missed irony that Babble is now owned by Disney. I’m disappointed by what I considered to be a group of fairly thoughtful, rage-against-the-machine bloggers who are now employed by Babble (in their new “Voices” section). What happened to questioning Disney’s pro-princess BS and over-priced American-culture hoarding practices? Did that go out of style? Now that Disney pays the bill, all of these anti-establishment bloggers clap their hands and squeal when they get pink tiaras in the mail.
