Combined collage gift-wrapping efforts by Lauca (6 yrs) and Cormac (2 yrs). I know all about the “put a bird on it” joke and yet I still can’t resist birds on everything, so, you know, I was quite charmed when Lauca decided to draw birds for wrapping these birthday presents.
And their Aunt loved her presents.

Oh dear. I didn’t know anything about this joke (or Portlandia here in the UK). For Christmas, I have bought my very cool designy/crafty friend a cushion which has not one, but two birds put on it. I also made her a small kilt pin charm brooch which has sewing charms on it. And I also put a bird on it. Erm, she’s a really beautiful singer. Let’s just hope this particular joke hasn’t yet made it to her in Wales either.
I just watched the skit, it’s really funny.
I am delighted to find that the Portlandia stuff has reached all the way to Australia. As a person who actually lives in the city being made fun of in that show, I can tell you that all of it is, for better or worse, true.
my oh so groovy architect friend put me onto Portlandia when I, predictably, put a bird on her wrapping. Still love birds, still put them on things, never was cool, never will be. I love Lauca’s birds.
 Lauca’s birds are great. I noticed in June last year that birds were everywhere in crafty/indie stores. I bought a lovely print and kind of decided, birds are pretty but that’s enough – I hate having/doing what everyone else is having/doing (obviously this doesn’t apply to everything, mainly consumer culture).
Sooo. Shoulda taken out IP on that thought eh? I can’t believe that company sued the woman about her parody of the parody bags!
Cute. Like it.
i have totally copied your present wrapping ideas, luggage tags and all, *and* used the awesome 80s lego girl picture on one of them. i feel slightly stalkerish…
Hah, no, we’re totally flattered.
