Sometimes you see this cultural phenomenon and it’s so perfect in explaining everything that you just think Case Closed.
You know, I’ve kinda even participated in one of these photos before. Long story short. Lauca’s first school photo for kindergarten, she was having some kind of melt down (yes, again), and you can’t see me but I am actually in the class photo. Wheeeeeeeeeeee.

Holy shit, that is one of the creepiest things I have ever seen. Shudder.
I wonder how many people unintentionally recreate this every year though? When our son was little and not quite sitting up yet we wanted to take photos of him for family for Xmas and I ended up behind the backdrop supporting him. We tried the under the cover thing, but he kept squirming around and trying to find me under there. When we had to get a passport photo of my not quite 12 month old daughter I knelt down and held her, out of camera range. Fortunately she was in a bad mood so smiling for the camera wasn’t an issue.
