In comments Rayna has asked –
my partner’s looking to donate some money to an Australian charity of my choosing, specifically one related to feminism/women’s health issues or similar.
I’m off researching a good one, but I’d welcome any recommendations from yourself or other readers:)
Intriguing and lovely question, Rayna.
I’m thinking reproductive choice, rape and incest support services, Indigenous mothers and babies health programs, domestic violence shelters, sex worker advocacy, women’s legal services .. and I’ve got some groups in mind that I’ll research further, but what are your suggestions, dear reader?
[…] A penny for your thoughts […]
How about something like this: http://www.girlsgotech.org/
In supporting programs that encourage young girls into non-traditional areas you will be helping to change attitudes and shape the future.
Thanks Kandela, looking for Australian charities though on this occasion.

International Women’s Development Agency (IWDA) is an Australian non-profit organisation that creates positive change for women and their communities. For over 20 years, our practical and rights-based projects directly address poverty and oppression in developing countries.
These guys are based in Melbourne…..
I am extremely fond of Project Respect, who work with women in the sex industry. They do amazing work, including helping women who have been trafficked.
Aaaand I have linkfail. The address is http://projectrespect.org.au/.
PAWS, Animal Advocates Australia, anything to do with Borderline Personality Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Eating Disorders – the latter three are desperately underfunded and the former two are just good causes. Meat eating and vegetarianism are feminists issues too 😉
Thank you for your suggestions! They’re added to my shortlist. I’ll decide with Nick, and let you know what we we pick.
🙂
ok I’ll add
“Marie Stopes International in Australia is part of the global Marie Stopes International partnership – a UK-based registered charity providing a full range of sexual and reproductive healthcare services to 4.8 million people worldwide in over 40 countries across Africa, the Arab World, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Proceeds generated from Marie Stopes International Australian centres will help support Marie Stopes International heathcare programmes in Australia and the developing world.”

and for more grass roots reproductive health assistance
“Children by Choice maintains a small donation fund to assist women in difficult circumstances to access abortion services. The individual needs of women seeking assistance through WAF vary tremendously and subjective judgments form the basis of acceptance into this program.”

also this, for something different:

or helping women incacerated, where Indigenous women are over-represented:

I second Project Respect and also CATWA (http://catwa.org.au/), the Australian arm of the Coalition Against Trafficking Women, headed by Sheila Jeffreys.
