This is what serenity looks like when your partner is a darling, like me, and sends you away on a hike in Tasmania for almost two weeks without the kids. I can’t even begin to imagine what that kind of serenity feels like. I study the photos for clues.
The Tasmanian Devil toy Bill bought for Lauca and lugged with him on the hike for various photographs.
Bill did the hike with my brother. This is the back of my brother.
Kangaroo prints in the snow.
The viewing of views.
Spikey grass in snow.
View.
Lake view.
Beautiful things.
More views.
Another view of hiking behind my brother.
A very cold waterfall.
Dinner.
One of the huts they slept in on the trek.
View from the hut they stayed in on the last night.
You win at marriage. What a generous heart you have.
Those photographs are incredible. Tasmania is so…old. And I agree, what a generous partner you are to let him have that experience and be refreshed and sated by trekking through the wilderness…and I bet you can cook too!
Gorgeous.
Swoon. Imagine the quiet.
How sweet is that stuffed Tassie Devil being traipsed around the mountain in the snow.
Beautiful photos, beautiful terrain. I can almost feel the serenity and solitude through them! Almost as good as the real thing, right?
I did that trek when I was 17! Too young to appreciate the privilege of such an adventure. Though I remember the beauty and have been a green activist ever since. I’m so happy for Bill that he had his adventure. Is it your turn now?
Beautiful Tasmania; darling, kind you. Am interested if you would choose this serenity for yourself?
My sister-in-law did this walk with some other mother friends when her 3 children were still relatively young, and I tried hard not to judge them but really couldn’t imagine being out of touch with my kids for that long. (Also, I did this same walk when I was in my early 20s and it nearly killed me, so perhaps it’s more a matter of choosing your preferred distant escape than not choosing to take that time and space at all.)
Your brother’s name isn’t Ted is it.
What an awesome trip it looks like he had! I hope he returned to you full of vive and delight in the ways that make you melty and happy 🙂
