The writer of The Mamafesto and I are watching True Blood together because everyone should watch TV with someone else and then talk it to death. We’re doing our best to occasionally apply some feminist analysis but this has been a bit of a dull season.
Sorry for the lag in getting this particular discussion up. With the value of hindsight you can watch us make lots of predictions for the final episode and get lots of it wrong. (NSFW image below).
And proceed no further if you don’t want spoilers for episode 11.
Mamafesto: Somebody on Twitter posted regarding Lillith: “Can someone tell Lilith’s bush to gtfo? Girl needs to see a waxer STAT.” My response? ” is it weird that I actually appreciate it? She’s old school biblical bush – keeping it real.”
blue: Fuck yes! I support the bush, pity it’s clearly fake.
Mamafesto: But yeah, lots of Lillith this episode.
blue: And turns out tripping gives you a God complex.. or the trouble with getting prophecies is anyone can get one.
Mamafesto: Exactly. The whole “nest syndrome on steroids” explanation that Pam shared with Tara seems a bit convenient. But I guess that’s what we’re supposed to believe.
blue: The other thing I noticed was that Bill and Hoyt have both made fairly uncomfortable pacts with themselves to erase their broken hearts. Yikes. But does this mean some particular storylines can finally reach completion?
Mamfesto: Good observation. Makes Bill seem like less of a soulless bastard
blue: He has certainly crossed over to a different kind of character – a proper villain.
Mamafesto: Yeah. They’re going to have to give me more than “nest-syndrome” to convince me otherwise, if he goes back to bland Bill.
blue: Yes. Think we’ve seen character development in Bill.. inconsistent character development, but development none the less.
We got another sex scene with Eric too?
Mamafesto: Yes. It was such a desperate scene. You could see Nora pouring in her confusion and apology and connecting back with Eric. Curious to see what their plan is now that Pam is back at The Authority under arrest. Maybe team up with Tara and Jessica to set things right?
blue: Yes.. a chance for Tara to rescue Pam. What did you think of the Military visit to The Authority? This conspiracy goes all the way. Obama, how could you?
Mamafesto: I kind of loved it.
blue: And I like how Eric just makes a mess and that’s basically his plan. Create a distraction with mess, I respect it.
Mamafesto: Because in general I dig conspiracy theories, so seeing how far that went was wild.
blue: Yes, same, love a conspiracy theory. And oh, the military industrial complex, you’re always so adorably bad in TV shows. We should mention the mice, too, who are doing a lot of running about and being naked. Such funny nudity, too. Just ‘talkin’ and stuff’ nudity.and then bang! gone again. So, I know I am monotonous but oh, my god I hate the faeries – the interpretive dancer was so ‘on the mark’ but so teeth-grittingly repellent to me. I am clearly not vampire.
Mamafesto: Oh, I thought you would have hated the elder faerie!
blue: Haha. Russell ate her, so I am ok with it.
Mamafesto: So…is the whole Warlow thing going to be put on hold while we have a vamp/faerie war?
blue: I think so.. Warlow is not Russell, that’s for sure. We got Alcide back.. still no shirt.. still no real action. But we’re getting there for the final episode, hopefully. And Alcide is building a fence, because that’s what these men who work with their hands do, but who knows why?
Mamafesto: I’m curious to see how they pack it all in next week – since it’s the last episode, right? Lots to bring to a close – Sam/Luna/Emma, everyone at The Authority thinking they’re Lillith’s chosen one, Eric & Nora on the loose, Russell & the Rev vs. the faeries, etc…
blue: I liked the vampires that we saw that were like zombies.. just vampires being mindless and on the loose.. guess a lot of them are getting turned in a hurry with no guidance from their makers, so it makes sense. Eric and Nora.. how will that end this season? Will Nora get killed off, I wonder.
Mamafesto: Ah…that will be interesting to see. And what would that do to Eric? No Godric, no Nora…
blue: But he can’t have Nora and Pam about, can he? Also, will Eric defeat Bill and become the king?
Mamafesto: Also – they totally keep pushing the extreme religious vs. bodily autonomy parallel with Tara “keep your laws off my body.”
blue: Yes, they did. I like any mention of reproductive rights on TV because it’s rare.
Mamafesto: They’re heavy-handed with these parallels, though. The racism (with the anti-supes), the reproductive rights, etc…
blue: It’s not a show that thinks its audience is super bright, alas. It does have us bang on the money when it comes to filth though. Oh yeah, one more observation.. the faerie who hooked up with Andy is pregnant. This will unfold next season I guess..?
Mamafesto: Oh, um, Holly! And yes, clearly a plotline developing there. Especially after he promised her cranky sons he’ll do right by her. Ooooh, foreshadowing.
blue: Otherwise, we’re at the end of the season.. guess there is going to be a big fight.. and we will see Russell finally killed off. But not Warlow? He might be next season’s villain..?
Mamafesto: Do you think Sookie will be the one to fight Russell?
blue: Yes, now that she’s taking care of herself more in the show.
Mamafesto: So…one episode left, final thoughts/predictions?
blue: I’m going to go out on a limb (not) and suggest that we’re going to see some things resolved and some things set up for next season. So either Bill stays on as a villain or Warlow doesn’t get resolved? Surely, Russell is done now after a couple of seasons? There’s not much more he can do, so, I’m predicting he’s killed off next episode. Also.. getting the slow burn started again between Eric and Sookie. Ready for next season. (They can’t have another dead season with those two?).
Mamafesto: Yeah, I’m hoping next season brings the show back to what it’s good at – tense/violent situations and steamy sex. Definitely going to be something going on with Alcide and his role as possible pack leader.
