I received a lovely email from a reader yesterday asking whether I know of any feminist fertility health blogs or forums or websites and I don’t … do you? She is trying to conceive and wants health information from a feminist perspective.
I would recommend the book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler which taught me so, so, so much about my own body and I can’t believe that a woman can to the age of thirty, like I did, without already knowing all that stuff about her menstrual cycle. And I don’t know how far along the ‘trying to conceive’ path this reader is but I do know that A Little Pregnant is totally feminist and that she has a wonderful writing style and a blog with lots of archives about fertility problems and overcoming them so I would totally recommend her if she’s looking for that perspective.
Readers, do you have some other suggestions?
This isn’t specifically focused on fertility, but Our Bodies, Ourselves is the iconic and still-going-strong feminist health text of the Women’s Health Movement. A search of the site linked above for “fertility” returned over 250 results, and the published book will likely have sections and further readings on the subject.
BEWARE OF THESE SCAMS!!! DR TANASIA JOBS IS THE ONLY SPELL CASTER TO TRUST!( tanasiajobs210@gmail.com) will be of great help to you.
I never believed in spell casting but After 4 years of dating my hobby, he left me because I lost my womb . I felt like my life has come to an end, I almost committed suicide, i was emotionally down for a very long time. Thanks to the spell caster called Dr Tanaisa whom i met online after my friend Tracy told me about how he helped her. She testified about how Dr Malawi brought back her Ex in less than 3 days and reversed the effect of her lost womb, and at the end of her testimony she dropped Dr Tanaisa’s email address. I decided to give Dr Tanaisa a try. I contacted her via email and explained my problems to her. In just 3 days, my Hubby came begging. We resolved our issues, and we are even happier than before, am pregnant now to God be the glory. Dr Tanaisa is really a gifted man and i will not stop publishing him because he is a wonderful woman… Come to think of it I didn’t pay much and all I have to do is send him little 250 dollars which he used in providing the materials used for the spell. Even my pastor said that God works mysteriously, that some women are used by God to help others. If you have a problem and you are looking for a real and genuine spell caster to solve all your problems for you. Contact Dr Tanaisa anytime, she is the answer to your problems. Here’s her contact (tanasiajobs210@gmail.com)
There might also be some good stuff in the archives at Baby Dust Diaries. Paige has three children now, so as long as I’ve been following her has not written much about infertility, but I know it was once a big focus of hers, and she is definitely a feminist.
It probably has more info on pregnancy than fertility, but I found first the egg to be very helpful when I was thinking about conceiving. It has a nice resource guide, too.
I’d recommend visiting Stirrup Queens’ site and checking out her massive blog roll of various types of infertility blogs. Those bloggers often know a ton about fertility thanks to quality time at fertility clinics, and I know many identify as feminist. She could also email Mel her needs & Mel can spread it via her weekly news post.

That’s the best site. A good site for pregnancy and parenting through infertility is pailbloggers@wordpress.com a good book is the infertility cure which is a traditional Chinese medicine approach and natural fertility approach
I second Stirrup Queen’s giant list of infertility blogs. Also her book on infertility is good too.
I read several doula/mom blogs whose authors might have ideas. You might try the author at Birthing Beautiful Ideas, for a start. She’s referred me to several helpful places when I’ve had similar needs.
Nah, you got me with A Little Pregnant! Started reading years ago and never moved on because she is just too hilarious.
I also read “Taking Charge of Your Fertility” at about 27 and was completely astounded that I knew so little about female biology – and I’m a PhD biochemist! I know a lot about biology! Very eye-opening.
I would argue that being a well-informed agent in your own fertility/ medical treatment/ pregnancy is very feminist – don’t let The Man tell you what to do without thinking about it! – so I recommend motherrisk.org – an evidence-based website mostly focusing on drug safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding- and Medline’s website, run by the National Institutes for Health in the US. (They tend to be medically very conservative – this miiight not be safe so never take it! – so read with a grain of salt.)
I’d also add the Offbeat Empire set of blogs to the mix–namely Offbeat Families (http://offbeatfamilies.com/) Under the “phases” tab there is a section for conceiving and pregnancy.
Hooray, that was my email question! Thanks so much for posting this! I’m going to look through all the recommendations today! I’ve been so frustrated with Google searches that all lead to the same websites, all of which seem to thread demeaning commentary into their articles. I can’t take the scare tactics, shaming and blaming…
In case anyone else is in a similar boat, one good recommendation I have is the first book I read while still on the fence about the whole motherhood thing: “The Panic-Free Pregnancy.” It’s not super comprehensive but it helped me immensely by dispelling common fears about what you can/can’t do during pregnancy.
Thanks again, all! I really appreciate the support!
There is a Facebook page called ‘Apples & Ovaries’ started by a woman within birthing and attached parenting circles. Has a lot of info about nutrition and fertility and many other things. You can ask questions there also. Good luck x
Thanks for all these wonderful suggestions.
A book I really enjoyed some years ago is ‘Woman : an intimate geography’ by Natalie Angier. She’s a NYT science writer and her ode to the biology of the human female is both eye opening and pretty lyrical too. I don’t remember if there’s that much on fertility, but I’d still say check your local library for a copy.
Google Joyous Birth Forum – primarily an aussie homebirth forum, but supportive of women wherever they choose to birth, strongly feminist, and has loads of info on fertility, health, pregnancy, birth, parenting, feminism and just sheer awesomeness.

I would definitely recommend looking into Justisse Healthworks for Women. It is an organization out of Edmonton, Canada that provides training and resources for menstrual cycle charting and ‘body literacy’. There is information out there, to be sure, but it is hard to find actual expert support that is explicitly pro-choice (unlike much info about fertility awareness-based family planning methods) and focused on women’s health and the importance of understanding our fertility as part of whole health.
