Almost once a week one of my dearest friends sleeps over. (She has this down to a fine art).
We have dinner with the children and maybe a game of Uno, then we put them to bed and stay up drinking champagne. When we are too tired to keep talking we collect a sleeping child each and put them in our beds; so, cuddled up to us they will sleep longer in the morning.
For breakfast, we are sometimes joined by another friend from afar via Skype. I don’t quite know what is in it for him, because.. chaos, but he doesn’t seem deterred.
What a wonderful friendship to have.
How lucky you are. My best girlfriend died 3 years ago next month. When you have a friendship for a long time (we were friends in this world for 26 years) your shared history makes your time together comfortable & comforting. Newer friends, as much as I love them, will never know me in the same way. Your post made me jealous & nostalgic.
Oh, my heart goes out to you. That’s a big loss.
What is the name of that stuff they’re busy with in the bottom picture? My kid has just started kindergarten and is obsessed with it, but I don’t know it. And I can’t catch the Swiss German word for it as filtered through her 4-year-old diction.
