The Melbourne Writers Festival has made more tickets available, so please come along and say hello to me if you happen to see me on the panel. I will not be talking about my breasts, instead I will speaking about Capital: Valuing What Matters with Dennis Glover and Ben Eltham.
Thomas Piketty’s unlikely international bestseller Capital questions the core of the capitalist system. In his new book, Dennis Glover argues that an economy is not a society. What do we put a dollar value on, what don’t we, and why? He and feminist economist Andie Fox discuss.
And speaking of media… I forgot to mention here that I was also on the parenting panel for ABC radio a fortnight ago.
If I wasn’t on the other side of the world, I would definitely come and see you!
(I loved what you said on the parenting panel, about an awareness of ASD resulting in more awareness and less judgement of parenting in general.)
Hi Andie,
It was lovely to see (hear!) you speak yesterday at the writer’s fest, thanks so much. My friend and I came up to say hello – with nothing useful to say other than nice to meet you!
Really important to have feminist economics and perspectives represented in the discussion, it would not have happened without you there. Following your intro comments which were great, it was not possible to ignore, as the talk continued, the ways in which ‘the past’ had not been ideal or equitable to women.
Also, it led me to think about the many ways that these inequities continue..sigh…but how exciting that there are feminist-informed economists who are attempting to tackle some of these constructs! In my work I think about the ways in which women (mothers in particular) engage with the paid workforce, so this was all very rich food for thought.
Many thanks again. We were lucky enough to get second-release tickets having missed out on the first round, so very pleased that we did.
Keep on writing, very much enjoy your blog and other writings,
Amanda
Thank you so much for this lovely, lovely comment. Was gorgeous to meet you.
