One day they did this.
And we said, hey stop sexualising young girls.
And they said, you’re sick, how could you think that about us?
Then one day they did this.
And we said, hey stop sexualising young girls.
And they said, that’s sassy, not sexy.
Then one day they did this.
And we said, hey stop sexualising young girls.
And they said, you’re over-reacting.
Then one day they did this.
And everyone said, 15 year old Miley Cyrus appearing topless in Vanity Fair, are you for real, that’s sexualising young girls, how disgusting.
And Miley’s parents said, oh my god, how did this happen, we thought it was art.
The slope, it was slippery.
Also, check out Vanity Fair’s pre-emptive strike in their ‘Behind the Scenes‘ pictures – featuring lots of Miley ‘doing sassy’ for photographer Annie Leibovitz while just happening to have Mum or Dad in the background (or even foreground) of the shot. See, totally innocent. Vanity Fair, definitely not to blame. Got it?
well, it certainly cuts down on the grooming time. here we go, girls. Object lesson one.
(but can’t you see? she’s just empowered. she’s just making her own choices? why are you trying to control her?)
Hey, nice post. Are you familiar with this grea Austrailian org:
http://www.kf2bk.com/
I think you and founder Julie Gale should join forces.
PS — I miss the blue milk photo from the header. LOVED IT. This is nice too, but it’s not the old photo….
Excellent post, blue milk. Sometimes you have to be the one to connect the dots so that the really dense can “get it.” 😀
It’s like you’ve just shown us a scientific formula how we can all make a Lindsay Lohan all of our very own.
Thank you for this, blue milk. I’ve just discovered your blog, and I’m thrilled. It’s so good to know I’m not alone in being profoundly disturbed by Bratz dolls, and to know that feminist motherhood is alive and well.
I am raising 3 daughters, and I’m still struggling to find ways to channel my worries into their empowerment. Thank you for further provoking my thoughts, and strengthening my commitment to fight for my daughter’s minds.
I’m so disgusted, and I’m so pissed off. I’ve always been disgusted and pissed off for us women and girls–and now (and it’s weird to be in this position all of a sudden), I’m also pissed off as someone trying to raise sons who *don’t* see girls and women like this. Oh, but look–there they are, and right there on the toy shelf.

Someone needs to let VF know, ‘intent is irrelevant.’ Didn’t mean to present a little girl in a sexual way? Well, you did anyway. So. Stop doing it.
Brilliant.
And the previous post, also brilliant.

Being in no way a feminist, I agree completely with this post. Why there isn’t more outrage among women, especially young mothers, is beyond me.
Nicely done.
Good lord. I appreciate how you put all this together.
well done. and Rightwingsparkle, the “F” word really ain’t so bad. Maybe someone gave you a bum definition at some point!
tonights tv, heres’ some more grooming for young girls! – tonight NEighbours is showing a teacher student relationship like some kind of romeo and juliet scenario.
lesson for you, teenage girlies. yes, its all right for your teacher to have sex with you. this is a relationship of equals so long as you lerv each other. and yes, your evil parents just dont understand…
Nice job pointing out VF’s role in the whole thing. But I also think this was a deliberate ploy by her media-savvy family to help her “cross over” as a child actress into adult roles. After all, she’s three years away from being “of age”, and Billy Ray Cyrus isn’t exactly a babe in the woods when it comes to the media. The timing of the release of her personal *oops* photos on the web is pretty suspicious to me. How better to break free of the Disney image than to follow in the premeditated and trashy footsteps of the Lohans, Spears and Aguilleras of the world by turning your child into a sex symbol at the ripe age of 15?

[…] Occasionally I give the benefit of the doubt and wonder if a particular instance of the sexualising of young girls has arisen more from a momentary lapse of judgement than deliberate depravity in the tiny little brain of a baron of commerce – it can happen when you spend too long on the slippery slope that is the pornification of female imagery, but this case is way past that. This is shameless. The young girl in a bikini straddling the milkshake? And, anyway what happened to her bikini bottoms? The whipped cream between her legs? The symbolic cherry? The phallic straws? Have I missed anything? […]

I used to adore Miley Cyrus but not now. Lets be honest if there was one Disney girl or actress that would evetually fall to this it was always going to be Miley, she just has that thing about her.
I was recently watching a video of her on Youtube and there she is dancing on stage it what can only be described as a black thong leotard.

oh my god. I saw her nude back. what a perverted thing!!!
c’mon people. do you know what a bikini is? now you will tell me a girl needs to be 18 to wear a bikini right?
seriously. all those people “worried” about how we sexualize “little” girls are the first that should take a deep breath and think about it. it’s not us the ones that see them as something sexual and perverted. it’s you. we only see pretty cute girls playing dress up and having fun.
William if you could put grown women in those poses and they wouldn’t look out of place, then they are not poses for children.

The term sexualize assumes that sexuality is imposed on one without sex. Only the dead lack sexuality. And the politically correct fear life because they can’t control it. They seek to insolate everyone and make us believe that we are all identical subatomic particles because all individually is wrong and racist. They are the life eaters who consume culture, art, and fun and leave nothingness in their wake.
Good luck. You may be famous someday. You are for everything I oppose. I am for plain speaking, clarity, and success. I believe you create what you seek. I write too so I wish you well.
