I’m very pleased to announce that Karen Bridson, the author of Stunned: The New Generation of Women Having Babies, Getting Angry and Creating a Mothers’ Movement will be visiting blue milk soon as part of her virtual tour for the book. Bridson is a self-described born-again feminist which I’ll admit gave me initial pause, but her book, which I’m part way through seems to be hitting the mark. And I’ve long maintained that for many women the path to feminism will be through the outrage they experience in motherhood. Stunned appears to be just the book those women will be looking for.
Because I am lucky enough on this blog to get the very smartest readers around I’d like to open my interview of Bridson up to include some questions from you. Bridson has generously agreed to the idea and her publishers have provided an excerpt of the book for that purpose. If you’re interested please email me and I’ll reply with the pdf excerpt.
And any of you can take part, you don’t have to be a mother, just interested in this topic.
So, I haven’t read this book, and knew nothing about this woman prior to your tweet… but my first reaction upon seeing the list of books she’s authored was a little disbelief that someone could write a book about “feeling good in your skinny jeans” and then a book about motherhood and feminism? It’s a little, um, strange. So how does she reconcile this? How does she convince a feminist mother like me that I should read her book? Is this where the “born again” part comes in?
Yes Kate, I wondered the same.. she refers in the book to a born-again experience of finding feminism. I was dubious too, but I have to say I’m enjoying the book so far. She’s a pretty honest writer, exploring much of her own experiences of recent motherhood and outrage in discussing the topics in her book.
No skinny jeans or yummy mummy crap talk thus far in her book, though I’m only part way through.
Would love to have you on board – why not read the excerpt and see how you feel?
where can i find an excerpt?
I’d love to read the excerpt and will try to think of intelligent question (brain currently compromised by virus so I’m not making any promises).
Please email me if you’d like a copy of the excerpt to read and I’ll email it to you. My email address is on my contact page. Cheers.
I would love to read an excerpt and ask a few questions. I’ll contact you.
I’m further into the book and there are some things I don’t like, but they’re mostly in the one chapter, will check if it is part of the extract you’re getting. Will be keen to see, if so, whether they’re concerning any of you who read it too.
When should I get you my questions. I’m diving in and have a few.
